Famous Lutherans

THIS PAGE IS JUST FOR FUN AND IS JUST WHAT WE GATHERED ON THE WEB.  WE DON'T KNOW  NECESSARILY WHAT KIND OF LUTHERAN ANY OF THESE PEOPLE ARE OR EVEN HOW SERIOUS THEY ARE ABOUT THEIR FAITH.  IT IS JUST INTERESTING TO KNOW....

DALE EARNHARDT, NASCAR DRIVER was a member of  St. Mark Lutheran Church, Mooresville, N.C. where he sometimes even served as an usher.  He was also known to have sometimes buzzed the Church in his helicopter when his daughter, Taylor, was in Bible School proving that Lutherans are frequently ornery, as well as enjoy driving fast!  In 2001, Dale was killed in a racing accident, reminding us how important it is to always be hanging on to salvation in Jesus because we never know when our own race will be over!

DAVID HASSELHOFF, ACTOR/SINGER/HUNK  Whoever said that Lutherans can't be hunky?  That's right, the Knight Rider himself claims to be a practicing Lutheran. So if you happen to get too close to the baptismal font and slip in, have no fear of drowning, the Hoff just might be near!!

LONI ANDERSON, ACTRESS   Best known for playing the receptionist, Jennifer, on "WKRP In Cincinnati", Loni was born and raised a Lutheran in St. Paul, MN.  Supposedly, she was even a Sunday School teacher at one time!  Wouldn't that have been fun to have Loni Anderson a Sunday School teacher?!  So "Ba-by, if you've ev-er won-dered...wondered, what-ever be-came of me..."

JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH  COMPOSER/MUSICIAN   While maybe not as pretty as Loni or the Hoff, Bach is perhaps the greatest composer to have ever lived.  He also enjoyed reading good theological books, including books by Martin Luther and Josephus which were found in his estate.  Music is one of the greatest gifts God has given mankind!

LOU GEHRIG, NEW YORK YANKEES LEGEND   Famed baseball player whose life was cut short by the disease that now bears his name. He was raised in a very devout Lutheran household. Reportedly, Gehrig was once asked by a New York City reporter if he was Jewish -- Gehrig proudly replied that he was a Lutheran!  Goes to show you that even if you've tried to be physically fit all your life, death still comes to us all.  It is so important to know and walk with Christ!

DANA CARVEY   COMEDIAN/ACTOR/'CHOPPING BROCCOLI" COMPOSER    This Saturday Night Live legend was raised Lutheran, though we're not sure how much of that good doctrine took root in his spiritual life! (He could use a little work in the area of 'sanctification'!)  Interestingly, Dana said that the "Church Lady" character he's also famous for was born, was based mostly on the Lutheran women who were always pressuring Dana's mother to produce a worthy casserole for the church suppers.  Party on, Garth!  Or should we encouragingly say, "Worship on!"

WILLIAM H MACY   ACTOR   Emmy award winning actor who starred in, well, what hasn't he starred in?!  When asked about his faith, the actor was quoted as saying "I am Lutheran down to my socks."   Lutheran socks...could there be a market for this??  We'd buy some!

ANN MARGRET  ACTRESS/BIKER BABE   Ann is legend in the film industry, and did you know that she also rides motorcycles??  That's pretty cool for being 73 years young!  But what we admire most about her is that she has been married to the same man for over 40 years.  How many Hollywood people, (or regular folk), can say that in today's world?!  Kudos to you, sister Ann.

KEVIN SORBO  ACTOR/HERCULES/GATEKEEPER   This former Hercules star is more recently known for his work in the Christian film, "God's Not Dead".  Kevin was raised in the Lutheran Faith, though we believe he currently attends a non-denominational Church.  He stands hard for the Christian Faith as you can see in this FOX news interview http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2014/03/20/kevin-sorbo-why-is-hollywood-so-afraid-god/

GARY LARSON,  "THE FAR SIDE" CARTOONIST  OK, this has got to be one our favorites!  THE FAR SIDE is one of the funniest cartoons ever made, being popularized into books, calendars, and more.  And here you thought that we Lutherans don't have a sense of humor!  Well, now your know!
